MONSTER MATCHES
(The monster project)
The final group project of our second year at CMGT granted our team the chance to work with a real client, which in our case was the local (Enschede) library and international elementary school.
Me and my team had the privelage to work on a game for 9 weeks, specifically made for the children of this school.
This game has been made with a tremendous amount of fun and love, and we are incredibly proud of our final product.
I highly recommend checking the game out for yourself on:
itch.io https://battleramgamer.itch.io/monster-matches

My responsibilities:
-
Designing and blocking out 4 (mini)games
-
Client contact
-
VFX and shaders
-
Quick prototyping
-
Lead testing
-
Balancing
-
Document level layouts, mechanics, and progression systems
-
Implementation
In MONSTER MATCHES the players (1 to 4 players) are invited into a world where they can play the monsters' minigames.
The player can custimize their player character (penguins) to suit their personal taste and try to get the highest score on the leaderboard.
The minigames have been specifically designed around the monsters' personality and abilities, given to us by the children.
Besides the minigames the players are free to explore a moodfull hub where they can test out the controls and pick which minigame they would like to play.

Featured Project
Silent protocol
Silent protocol is the result of the third project in our second year.
This project challenged us to use the phone functionalities as the base for our game. These funtionalities could be things such as the camera (xr), gyroscope and accelorometer.
This was one, if not the biggest game I have worked on.
My responsibilities:
-
Define project scope, schedule, and milestones
-
Develop story
-
Write script and dialogue
-
Designing and testing phone minigames
-
Design and test monster mechanics
-
Design map layout
In Silent protocol the protagonist finds themselves in a post - nuclear factory, where they have been tasked to explore the place.
Not everything is as it seems of course, as soon it becomes appearent that some "thing" as mutated beyond recognition, and is now hunting you.
The player is free to explore the factory and it's secrets while trying to avoid this monster. Along the way parts of the story keep unfolding themselves.

Featured Project
Final Fumes
The most creative (and slightly silly) game I have worked on in the course of my study is Final Fumes.
For this project our study challenged us to pick a good cause and make a game out of it, calling attention to the issue.
We picked "youth vape prevention".
But we decided to take a bit of a different approach to designing the game than we usually did.

My responsibilities:
-
Designing and prototyping
-
(User) research
-
Testing
-
Balancing
-
Implementation
In Final Fumes we discovered after research, that the best way to reach our target audience (teenagers to young adults), was with humor.
In final fumes you play as a local vape shop owner selling customized vapes to your customers. Over time you see your customers looking worse and worse, until they fail to show up.
This way we tried to call attention to the (in some cases, extreme) effects of vaping, in a way that did not feel forced, or even better yet, funny.
